April 1, 2014
STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior captain Brant Harris (Estevan, Saskatchewan) signed an amateur tryout contract (ATO) with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Monday and is set to make his professional debut on Tuesday. Harris is the second Husky to sign a professional contract this spring, joining goaltender Matt Grogan who inked a deal with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL.
Harris finished his four-year career at UConn as the program's all-time Division I scoring leader. Appearing in 141 career games, Harris collected 112 career points coming on 52 goals and 60 assists. His 52 career goals rank him second among the Huskies Division I goal scorers and 16th all-time at UConn.
This season, Harris served as a team captain and after missing the first six games with a knee injury, he stormed back to finish the year sharing the team-leadin in scoring with classmate Billy Latta (West Chester, Pa.). Harris finished the season with 11 goals and was tied for the team lead with 15 assists for 26 points. He led the team with a +11 rating for the season. For his efforts, Harris was named to the Atlantic Hockey Association All-Conference third team.
Harris joins the Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders. Harris is expected to make his debut on Tuesday morning when the Sound Tigers play host to the Springfield Falcons.
