STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team placed nine player on the Hockey East All-Academic team for the 2014-15 season. The Huskies finished their first season of play in Hockey East this past season.
Joey Ferriss (Novi, Mich.) and Kyle Huson (Parker, Colo.) lead the UConn contingent on this year's team, earning all-academic honors for the third-straight season. The duo collected Atlantic Hockey academic accolades during their first two seasons in a UConn uniform. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) and Brad Smith (Trenton, Mich.) both earned a spot on this year's team after garnering Atlantic Hockey All-Academic honors after the 2013-14 season.
Five UConn freshman earned their honor during their first season on the ice. Johnny Austin (St. Louis Park, Minn.), Spencer Naas (Minnetonka, Minn.), Kasperi Ojantakanen (Helsinki, Finland), Steve Thulin (North Reading, Mass.) and Jeff Wight (Coquitlam, British Columbia) round out the Huskies on this year's team.
Hockey East announced on Wednesday that a league-record 133 student-athletes were named
to the league's 2014-15 All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which he was actively competing.
