Hockey East Media Day Coverage
BOSTON, Mass. - The Hockey East Association held its annual Media Day event at TD Garden in Boston on Monday where the Preseason Coaches Poll was announced. UConn Head Coach Mike Cavanaugh was in attendance to meet with members of the media.
The Huskies were tabbed to finish ninth in the annual vote of the league's head coaches. Last season, UConn was picked 12th heading into their first season in Hockey East and played their way to a ninth place finish in the final league standings.
Boston College, Boston University and defending national champion Providence split the first-place votes. The Eagles were chosen as the league favorite heading into the Hockey East's 32nd season of play, claiming seven first place votes. BU was second in the poll with three first place votes and the Friars were third claiming the final two first place nods.

The league also announced their upcoming TV package with games being broadcast this season through the American Sports Network. The Huskies will appear twice on this year's package with their games at UMass Lowell (Dec. 6) and their home game with Vermont (Jan. 22). Specific networks where games will be made available will be announced at a later date.
The 24th recipient of the league's Joe Concannon Award was also announced on Monday, honoring a member of the media who has done an outstanding job covering Hockey East. This year's winner is Nancy Marrapese-Burrell, longtime Boston Globe writer.
The Huskies will open their season with an exhibition game against Queens University on Saturday, October 3rd at Freitas Ice Forum. UConn opens the regular season with a two-game series at Alabama Huntsville October 9th and 10th.
