COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (November 16, 2007) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Air Force Friday night. Andrew Olson (Alexandria, Minn.) and Ryan Hawkins (Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored for the Huskies. UConn falls to 2-6-0 overall, and 2-5-0 in the Atlantic Hockey Association. The Falcons are 6-3-0 and 4-3-0.
After falling behind 1-0 after one period, the Huskies took advantage of a power play early in the second to tie the game at one. Olson scored his team leading fifth of the season off assists from Steve Bergin (Groton, Mass.) and Hawkins at the 4:17 mark. The tie would be short lived, as the Falcons scored the next two goals to end the second period up 3-1.
After managing only nine shots total in the first two periods, the UConn offense went on the attack in the third. Only 53 seconds into the period, Hawkins scored another power play goal for the Huskies, this one was off assists from Jeff Sapieha (Calgary, Alberta) and Sean Erickson (Eden Prairie, Minn.). Connecticut kept up the aggressive offensive attack, out shooting the Falcons 11-5 in the period but were unable to get the tying goal across.
For the game, Air Force out shot UConn 35-20. Goaltender Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) had another strong night with 32 saves. Sean Erickson led the team with five shots.
UConn concludes the two game series with Air Force on Saturday at the Cadet Ice Arena. Game time is scheduled for 9:35 p.m.
