STORRS, Conn. - UConn freshman goaltender Adam Huska (Zvolen, Slovakia) was named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. Huska wins his second rookie of the week honor this season.
The freshman netminder turned in a pair of 30-plus save performances in going 1-0-1 against No. 4/3 UMass Lowell last weekend. On Friday, Huska stopped 31 shots as the Huskies came away with a 3-2 win on the road at the Tsongas Center. In Saturday's series finale, Huska stopped 34 shots as UConn came away with a 2-2 tie, earning three points on the weekend.
Huska is 3-0-1 against Hockey East competition this season with all three wins coming on the road against teams ranked in the top-10 nationally at the time. He currently sits third in the league with a .923 save percentage and is 11th with a 2.71 goals against average.
This week's honor marks the fifth time this season a UConn goaltender has taken home a Hockey East weekly award. Huska has a pair of rookie honors and won the defensive player of the week award once. Senior Rob Nichols (Dallas, Texas) has two defensive player nods on his ledger this season.
The Huskies will close out the first half of their season on Friday night playing host to the UMass Minutemen, live on American Sports Network and NESN. Opening face-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
