STORRS, CONN. (Dec. 27, 2005) -- The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team is set to host the 13th annual UConn Hockey Classic, sponsored by Toyota, on Thursday, December 29th and Friday, December 30th. This year’s tournament will feature Army, Bowling Green and UMass-Amherst. The contests are slated for 4:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on both days. UConn will face Army in the second game of the first day and will advance to either the championship or consolation game on the second day. Bowling Green and UMass, first time participants in the tournament, will play in the opening contest on the 29th.

UConn has an 11-12-1 record at the Classic and has won three times (1995, 1999 and 2003), while Army has a 1-1-0 record at the Classic. The Classic has had four different homes since its first year during the 1993-94 season. The Veteran’s Rink in West Hartford (one year), the International Skating Center in Simsbury (two years), the Norwich Ice Rink (two years) and now the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum, formerly the UConn Ice Arena (seven years).

The Huskies enter the 2005-06 Toyota UConn Hockey Classic on a three game winning steak.  Connecticut has been idle since December 9th when the team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Sacred Heart, 3-2, at home.
