Men’s Hockey Set to Host the 2004-05 Toyota UConn Hockey Classic



    STORRS, CONN. (Dec. 28) -- The University of Connecticut men’s hockey team will look to defend its 2003-04 title at this year’s Toyota UConn Hockey Classic, which will feature Brown, Holy Cross and Merrimack. The contests are slated for 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. on both Thursday, December 30th and Friday, December 31st. UConn will face Holy Cross in the second game of day one and will advance to either the championship or consolation game on the second day. Brown and Merrimack, both first time participants in the Classic, will play in the opening contest.

    UConn has an 11-10-1 record at the Classic and has won three times (1995, 1999 and 2003) , while Holy Cross has a 3-5-0 record at the Classic and won the first ever UConn Classic in 1993. The Classic has had four different homes since its first year during the 1993-94 season. The Veteran’s Rink in West Hartford (one year), the International Skating Center in Simsbury (two years), the Norwich Ice Rink (two years) and now the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum, formerly the UConn Ice Arena (seven years).

    The Huskies enter the 2004-05 Toyota UConn Hockey Classic with a 2-1-1 record over their last four games. Connecticut has been idle since December 8th when the team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
