STORRS, Conn. - The No. 4 UConn men's soccer team ended the preseason with a 0-0 tie against Stony Brook in the final exhibition of the 2012 preseason. The regular season begin on Saturday, August 25 when the Huskies host St. Francis at 7 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
A scoreless first half saw UConn denied by the woodwork and a great reflex save from Stony Brook goalkeeper Carlos Villa.
Sophomore Adria Beso picked up a loose ball following a corner kick at 18:04 and fired a shot from the top of the box that hit off the right post, across the goal line and off the left post. Junior Mamadou Doudou Diouf pounced on the rebound but had his shot from six yards out denied by Villa. The loose ball was eventually cleared from danger.
Stony Brook's best chance of the half came at 36:38 when Raphael Abreu blasted a free kick from 25 yards out over the bar.
UConn outshot Stony Brook in the first half, 7-2.
Villa came up with another excellent save at 61:30 to keep the game scoreless. Max Wasserman hit a one-time strike from the top right side of the box headed for the left side netting, forcing a diving save from Villa.
The game ended in a 0-0 tie and the two teams chose not to play the overtime session.
