STORRS, Conn.- UConn senior defender Nickardo Blake (Clarendon, Jamaica) was selected by Toronto FC as the 14th pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. Blake is the third player from Connecticut taken in the MLS Draft process this season, joining Tony Cascio and Andrew Jean-Baptiste who were taken No. 14 and No. 8 in the MLS SuperDraft, respectively.
Blake started every game for UConn as a senior. The speedy right back finished his final season in Storrs with a goal and three assists for four points. Blake’s lone goal of the season led UConn to a 1-0 victory in overtime against in-state rival Yale on September 27.
Blake is UConn’s 25th player taken in the MLS draft since the late Bobby Rhine was chosen with the sixth pick in 1999. Last season, all-time great goalkeeper Josh Ford was selected 11th by the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Supplemental Draft.
