STORRS, Conn. – UConn men’s soccer rising senior Jake Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) has been named to’s top-10 list of Division I men’s soccer defenders, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.

A 2015 co-captain, Nerwinski earned a starting nod in all 22 of the team’s games, helping UConn reach the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in the last 19 seasons. The Lawrenceville, N.J. native earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference First Team, ranking ninth in the league with five assists, including a helper in the Huskies’ NCAA Tournament win over Boston University on Nov. 19. He also played a key role in helping the Husky defense record seven shutouts and a stellar 0.76 goals against average.

Nerwinski played in 40 games with 34 starts from 2013-14, earning a spot on the league’s All-Second team as a sophomore in 2014. He was a crucial part of the Connecticut defense that allowed just three goals in conference play and finished the season 19th in the nation in shutout percentage.

In 2013, he was part of the UConn defense that recorded 12 shutouts and also dished out five assists in 21 matches.

In addition to his time with the Huskies on the pitch, Nerwinski was one of 28 players around the nation to earn an invitation to the U.S. U-23 National Team training camp last August.

The Huskies wrapped up a five-match spring schedule in late April and are set to embark on a spring team trip to Italy in the coming weeks. A complete trip preview will be available shortly on
