STORRS, Conn.– The UConn men’s soccer team announced its 18-game regular season slate for the upcoming 2017 season on Thursday. The Huskies are set to play a 12-match home slate at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium and will face seven teams that appeared in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. All home contests are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The Huskies finished the 2016 season 11-7-1 and 3-3-1 in American Conference action. UConn finished third in the standings and advanced to The American Championship, losing in the semifinals to Tulsa, 2-0.
UConn opens the season with a pair of exhibition matches beginning on the road at Rutgers on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. The Huskies play North Carolina State on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium. The exhibition at Morrone Stadium will be free to the public.
UConn opens the regular season with its first six contests at home. For the second-straight year, the Huskies will open against Iona on Friday, Aug. 25. The Huskies took down the Gaels 3-1 on opening night in 2016.
The Huskies home stand features Quinnipiac (Aug. 28), Notre Dame (Sept. 2), Georgetown (Sept 9) and Hofstra (Sept. 12). UConn closes the home stretch against North Florida on Saturday Sept. 16, a first-time meeting between the Huskies and Ospreys.
UConn begins American Conference play on the road at Temple on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. Abdou Mbacke Thiam led the Huskies to a 1-0 victory over the Owls last season with his sixth goal of the season.
Next up, the Huskies open a three-game home swing against 2016 NCAA Quarterfinalist, Providence, on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The Huskies knocked off the Friars in Providence, 1-0, last season.
The Huskies host their first conference game against Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 29. On Monday, Oct. 2, the Huskies welcome the Maryland Terrapins to Morrone Stadium. Last year, the Terrapins entered the 2016 NCAA Tournament as the top overall seed and held the No. 1 ranking in the country.
After the match against Maryland, the Huskies experience their longest road stretch of the season. A string of three matches at Cincinnati (Oct. 7), USF (Oct. 14) and Boston College on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. The respective programs will announce the game times for the Cincinnati and USF matches at a later date.
UConn rounds out its home schedule playing three of the final five games at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies face league opponents, UCF on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Memphis Saturday, Oct. 28.
Sandwiched in between is a road game at Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
The final home match of the regular season is Tuesday, Oct. 31 against Yale. The Huskies have played no team in program history more than the Bulldogs. UConn and Yale will square off for the 71st match all-time.
The regular season finale for the Huskies is in Dallas against SMU on Saturday, Nov. 4 at a time to be determined.
