STORRS, Conn. – Mike Miller, who boasts over 12 years of collegiate coaching experience, has been added to the UConn men’s soccer coaching staff as an associate head coach, as announced by Ray Reid on Monday afternoon.
Miller comes to Storrs after a Major League Soccer stint with Sports Kansas City as a domestic scout. Prior to his time in the professional ranks, Miller served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Duke from 2014-16. With the Blue Devils, he was responsible for student-athlete development, fund raising efforts, video analysis, and opponent scouting.
“Mike Miller checks all the boxes that we were looking for when Coach O’Donohue took the head coaching position at Navy,” said Reid. “Michael is a tireless recruiter and one of the best in college soccer. He is energetic, passionate, extremely driven and a great communicator with student-athletes. He understands that recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. He is going to be a great fit at UConn.”
“I would like to thank Coach Reid and UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict for providing me with the opportunity to join one of the most prestigious programs in college soccer,” Miller said. “Coach Reid’s vision to continue to build on this success is highly compelling and I’m very much looking forward to being a part of it.”
Before a two-year stretch in Durham, Miller served for four years on the Syracuse staff from 2010-2014. During his time with the Orange, he received honors from College Soccer News as one of the nation’s top assistants in 2013 and also was responsible for recruiting a pair of players selected in the first round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. He was an instrumental figure in helping the Orange bring in three-straight top-40 recruiting classes from 2011-13 and was promoted to Head Recruiting Coordinator in 2011.
Miller received his master’s degree while serving as an assistant at Evansville from 2006-10, playing an important role in recruiting and student-athlete development.
He got his start in the coaching ranks in 2004 as an assistant at North Florida, coaching for the Ospreys until 2006.
As a student-athlete, Miller played as a goalkeeper from 1999-2004 for Jacksonville University, finishing fifth in single-season shutouts. A two-time Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, he was placed on the All-Conference Tournament team in 2001. He received his bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2004.
Miller is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), holds several national coaching licenses and serves on the group’s committee that is responsible for selecting the national assistant coach of the year.
