STORRS, Conn. --
The UConn men's soccer team is set to play its first of two exhibition matches on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. when it welcomes Rider to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The contest will be open to the public and free-of-charge.

UConn won its first-ever American Athletic Conference regular season championship in 2014, putting together a 6-1-1 conference record. Overall, the Huskies posted a 10-6-3 mark, reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament. The team finished unbeaten in each of its last seven matches, allowing just two goals over the stretch. Four Huskies received Player of the Year honors from The American, including Offensive Player of the Year Cyle Larin (Brampton, Ontario), who was later drafted No. 1 in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Orlando City Soccer Club.

With Orlando City's selection of Larin, Connecticut became the first program to have back-to-back top overall picks in the SuperDraft, which began in 1997. Former UConn keeper Andre Blake was taken by the Philadelphia Union with the top pick in the 2014 draft after spending three seasons in Storrs under men's soccer coach Ray Reid.

Since entering the American Athletic Conference prior to the 2013 season, the Huskies are 10-1-5 against league foes

In late July, Reid announced that rising juniors Jake Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and Kwame Awuah (Toronto, Canada) will serve as captains for the 2015 campaign. The upcoming regular season fall slate includes matches against five teams that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Tournament as well as 11 games against opponents that finished with at least 10 wins a season ago.

The Broncos finished the 2014 season with a 9-7-2 overall record en route to a third-place finish in the MAAC.
