UConn Grabs First Conference Victory Over Rutgers
STORRS, Conn. - Connecticut redshirt senior Colin Bradley scored his first career goal on a penalty kick in the 16th minute, as UConn picked up its first conference victory of the season, defeating the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 1-0, at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Wednesday night. With the victory, Connecticut moves to 4-2-4 (1-0-3 The American) while Rutgers moves to 5-6-1 (2-2-0 The American).

UConn enters its fourth season in the American Athletic Conference and looks to improve on a 10-6-6 overall record from a season ago. In 2015, Connecticut reached the finals of the league tournament before securing its 17th NCAA tournament bid in the last 18 seasons.

On Tuesday, senior tri-captain Jake Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) was selected as the preseason American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was joined on the preseason All-Conference team by Kwame Awuah (Toronto, Ont.), Abdou Mbacke Thiam (Dakar, Senegal), and Simen Olafsen (Oppegaard, Norway).

In total, the Huskies' 2016 regular season slate features seven teams that qualified for the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Additionally, 11 of UConn's 18 opponents finished last season with a winning record, while eight programs record the 10-win plateau.

Rutgers is coming off a 12-7-2 campaign in 2015, reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament after posting a 4-4-0 overall mark in conference play.
