STORRS, Conn. – After opening exhibition play with a 2-1 victory over Rider on Aug. 16, the UConn men’s soccer team will play its second exhibition game on Saturday, Aug. 22 when it welcomes Syracuse to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and attendance is free-of-charge.

A pair of first-half goals scored by junior captain Kwame Awuah and Abdou Thiam propelled the Huskies to a victory over the Broncs on Sunday night at Morrone Stadium. Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Scott Levene, who earned starts in the squad’s final 11 matches and held a conference-best 0.51 GAA, played the entire first half and recorded a clean sheet. Connecticut out-shot their New-Jersey based foes, 19-to-3, including a 9-to-1 edge in the final 45 minutes.
UConn and Syracuse have met on the pitch 37 times in the regular season, including a 4-0 Orange victory in 2014. Overall, the Huskies own a 22-12-3 (.635) mark against their former Big East rivals in a series that dates back to 1982. Last season, the Orange finished 16-4-1, falling to Georgetown in the third round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
On Monday, UConn was chosen as the preseason favorite in the American Athletic Conference in a vote of the league’s coaches. Additionally, junior captains Awuah and Jake Nerwinski, as well as sophomore midfielder Cheikh Stephane Coly, were tabbed as Preseason All-Conference selections.
The Huskies will open the regular season on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. against St. Francis at Morrone Stadium. Students can attend the game for free with a valid UConn ID.
