Alvarez, Blake and Diouf Named Preseason All-Americans

STORRS, Conn. - Senior midfielder Carlos Alvarez (Los Angeles, Calif.), junior forward Mamadou Doudou Diouf (Dakar, Senegal) and sophomore goalkeeper Andre Blake(May Pen, Jamaica) have been named Preseason All-Americans by Soccer America. UConn, the No. 1 team in the Soccer America rankings, leads all programs with three selections.

Alvarez was recently named to the 2012 Hermann Trophy Watch List after being named an NSCAA Second Team All-American following his junior year. He finished 2011 with six goals and eight assists for 20 points. Alvarez was named Second Team All-BIG EAST in 2011 after being tabbed First Team All-BIG EAST in 2010 and BIG EAST Rookie of the Year in 2009. UConn's captain will begin his senior campaign ranked No. 7 all-time at UConn with 33 assists. Alvarez earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team for the second consecutive year as the Huskies were picked to finish first in the BIG EAST Blue Division.

Blake became the first freshman in BIG EAST men's soccer history to win a major conference award at the annual end-of-season banquet when he was tabbed the league's BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011. Blake was later named a NSCAA Third Team All-American. He finished the season with a 19-3-3 record based on a 0.39 goals against average and 0.888 save percentage to go with 15 shutouts, all totals good for second in the NCAA. Blake set a Connecticut record with nine-straight shutouts, spanning 961:32. Most recently, the sophomore goalkeeper was tabbed the unanimous BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and earned a spot on the Hermann Trophy Watch List.

Diouf was selected as the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after leading Connecticut in scoring in 2011 with 13 goals and two assists for 28 points. Diouf was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team as a sophomore and earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team as a freshman. He recorded four multi-goal performances as a sophomore, including a hat trick at home against then-No.7 California.

Mamadou Diouf was named a Preseason All-American.
