STORRS, Conn. - The weekly national polls have been released and UConn men's soccer is ranked as high as No. 4 by Soccer America. The NSCAA places UConn at No. 5. BIG EAST foe Louisville is No. 1 in both polls.
Connecticut moved up three spots from No. 8 in the NSCAA poll and earned 433 points. The Huskies sit behind Louisville at No 1 (549 pts - 19 FPV), Akron (525 - 2 FPV) and ACC powers North Carolina (506 pts) and Maryland (483 - 1 FPV).
UConn is one of five BIG EAST programs ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 this week. Louisville continues to hold down the No. 1 spot with UConn at No. 5. The BIG EAST is also represented with Notre Dame at No. 10, West Virginia at No. 12 and South Florida at No. 20.
Soccer America places UConn at No. 4 behind Louisville, North Carolina and Akron.
The Huskies defeated St. Francis at home on Saturday, August 27, 2-0. Preseason All-American Carlos Alvarez (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored for UConn to make it 2-0 after the Huskies had benefited from an own goal to go up, 1-0. Connecticut recorded its first shutout of the season after keeping 13 clean sheets in 2010.
Connecticut will be in action next against Michigan State on Thursday, September 1. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The first 150 fans in attendance will receive a free UConn soccer shirt. UConn will then host No. 7/12 California on Sunday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to dress in blue and white to Sunday's contest. The fans with the best blue and white outfits will receive a PC Richard's gift card.
