Men's Soccer To Host In-State Rival Quinnipiac on Monday Night

After playing to a scoreless draw in its season opener, the UConn men's soccer team returns to the pitch on Monday, Aug. 31 when it welcomes in-state rival Quinnipiac to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be heard on WHUS, 91.7 FM.

UConn (0-0-1) earned 12 corners and put up nine shots in its season opener against St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday night but could not find the back of the net during the 110-minute match. Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Scott Levene made three saves in the draw.

The Huskies sport a 1-0-1 (.750) all-time mark against the Bobcats, including a 2-1 victory in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, played at Morrone Stadium. Senior midfielder Nicholas Zuniga tallied a goal in the 51st minute, scoring on a deep cross from junior captain Jake Nerwinski.

Dating back to the 2014 campaign, Connecticut is unbeaten in its last eight matches and owns a 4-0-1 home record over the stretch. The Husky defense hasn't allowed a goal in over five matches, totaling a time of over 577 minutes.

No. 10 UConn Advances In NCAA Tournament With 2-1 Win Over Quinnipiac
It took 13 games and 830 minutes, but Mamadou Diouf, the Huskies leading scorer a year ago, found the back of the net for the first time in 2013, propelling the Huskies to a 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Tournament on Thursday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Connecticut (12-2-6) advances in the tournament and will travel to nationally-ranked UMBC for a Second Round match set for Sunday, November 24th at 5 p.m.

Quinnipiac enters the match is an 0-1-0 record, falling, 1-0, to Boston College on Friday night. The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the MAAC and had a pair of players named to the league's Preseason All-Conference squad.
