Pre-season is finally over and now it is on to the games that count. Our pre-season this year was very productive and although it felt short, I think we were able to utilize the time that we were provided very efficiently.
We opened up last night with a 2-0 victory against St. Peter's. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank our Student Support Group - "THE GOAL PATROL", for their continued support of Soccer at UConn. You guys are the #1 support group in college soccer in the nation. Your passion, enthusiasm and energy for our players and program are really special. Last night with a crowd of 3,744 spectators looking on, it was very obvious how important our crowd and the Goal Patrol are to our players. On behalf of our players and coaches let me thank you for your commitment to our sport and our team. You only have to look at other college soccer websites in the country to see how they are all trying to emulate what we have. You ladies and gentlemen are pioneers in the world of college soccer and we love you for it! If you are interested, there is a little video on our website which shows the Goal Patrol coming into Morrone Stadium.
In closing, I would like to mention a few of our guys who have gotten off to great starts. Michael Pezza has had a great pre-season and registered two assists on opening night. Michael is one of the best attacking players in college soccer and he is able to see things that so many others don't. We are going to miss Michael after this season. Kwame Watson-Siriboe has been tremendous for us showing great leadership and maturity. He has been an anchor in the back for us. And finally, Greg King had a fantastic pre-season and really provides us with great left sided defender.
Also, Soccer America did a nice piece on some of our California players. It was done by Paul Kennedy on Thursday, September 3rd. It talks about some of the West Coast guys that are presently in our program.
