PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Monday, UConn men’s soccer freshman defender Simen Olafsen was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league. Additionally, redshirt-sophomore Scott Levene was named to the conference’s weekly honor roll.
Olafsen, who has started all three games in 2015, has helped the UConn defense record three-straight shutouts to open the year. In total, Connecticut has yet to allow a goal in 330 minutes of play this season and hasn’t surrendered an opponent score in 797 minutes overall, dating back to October of 2014.
Prior to his time with the Huskies, Olafsen played for the Norweigan U15, U17 and U19 squads and won a national championship in Norway with the Vaalerenga U17 team.
Levene earns a spot on the honor roll for the second-straight week after opening the season with three shutouts in the net. The Husky keeper, who started the final 11 matches of 2014, has notched clean sheets in 11 of 14 career starts and boasts a stellar 0.41 career goals against average. In 330 minutes of play, Levene has registered five saves and also thwarted five opponent corner attempts.
The Huskies return to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 10 when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to challenge Harvard in their first road appearance of 2015. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
