STORRS, Conn. – Following a two-match road trip, the UConn men’s soccer team returns home to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium to host Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with radio coverage on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (3-3-0) battle with top-ranked Notre Dame on Tuesday in South Bend, Ind., forcing a pair of overtime periods before surrendering a golden-goal in the 104th minute. Tuesday’s tilt marked the first time the programs had met on the pitch since the 2012 campaign.
Saturday’s meeting with the Greyhounds will mark the first meeting between the programs in school history. Loyola is one of two opponents that UConn plays for the first time in 2016 (Omaha).
Loyola enters Saturday’s tilt with a 1-4-0 overall record, most recently falling to High Point, 3-1, on Sept. 10. The team has tallied just four goals in its first five matches and has been shut out two times.
With three wins in four home matches to start the season, Connecticut owns a 24-6-7 record at Morrone Stadium since the start of the 2013 campaign. Over its last nine matches at home, dating back to Oct. 17, 2015, UConn has out-scored its opponents, 19-to-6, and has posted four shutouts.
Saturday’s match will represent the Huskies’ final weekend non-conference match of the season. The team is set to open its American Athletic Conference schedule on Sept. 24 against Temple.
