STORRS, Conn. - The No. 3 University of Connecticut men's soccer team will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. this Tuesday, September 17th, for its first road match of the season at 7:00 p.m. Connecticut enters the match at 2-1-1, coming off a 1-0 defeat against Bradley over the weekend. Syracuse boasts a 3-2-0 record in 2013.
The Huskies will be looking to rebound after a tough week which saw UConn earn a 0-0 draw against No. 10 Washington and drop its first regular season home match in 39 contests to Bradley on Saturday. Connecticut has outshot opponents 64-25 this season, but has had a tough time finishing plays, as it has just two goals in four matches.
Senior defender Michael Mercado was named the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts on the backline for the Huskies.
The match will mark the 36th meeting between the two teams, with UConn holding a 22-10-3 all-time record against the Orange. The last meeting ended in a 2-0 victory for the Huskies at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on September 27th, 2009. Syracuse has not scored a goal against the Husky defense since October 27th, 2004, when UConn defeated the Orange 3-2 at home.
Freshman midfielder Alex Halis leads the Orange attack, having scored a team-leading three goals and tallying seven points. Goalkeeper Alex Bono has played all 458 minute in the net for the Orange, allowing six goals and making 18 saves.
