- After opening the 2015 season with seven non-conference matches, the UConn men's soccer team is set to begin American Athletic Conference play when it travels to Tampa, Fla. to challenge USF at Corbett Soccer Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.

UConn Falls To USF In Penalty Kicks In American Athletic Semifinal Match
The University of Connecticut men's soccer team fell in penalty kicks to South Florida on Friday night in the semifinal round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Bulls converted two penalty kicks, while all four UConn players missed their attempts. The Huskies move to 10-6-3 overall with the loss, and South Florida now stands at 10-7-2 on the season.

 

Since joining The American prior to the 2013 season, the Huskies own a 10-1-1 overall mark in league play and captured the 2014 regular season crown. The Huskies are 7-2-1 over the last 10 years in conference openers and also hold a stellar 13-3-2 record in league opener sunder 19th-year head coach Ray Reid.

UConn (3-1-3) dropped a 3-1 decision to Boston College on Tuesday despite the first career goal from redshirt-sophomore midfielder Alex Sanchez. The loss snapped the Huskies' 13-match unbeaten streak.

Saturday's meeting will be the 14th time the programs have met on the pitch after playing three times in 2014. The Huskies lead the all-time series, 9-1-3, and held a 1-1-1 mark against their Tampa-based foes a season ago.

Through seven matches, Connecticut ranks 15th in the country with a 0.57 shutout percentage and also stands at No. 20 with a 0.65 team GAA. On Monday, Jonsson and redshirt-sophomore keeper Scott Levene earned recognition from The American with a spot on the league's weekly honor roll.

USF enters Saturday's match with a 5-2-0 overall record and is receiving votes in Tuesday's NSCAA poll. Nine different Bulls have scored in the 2015 season, led by a pair of goals from junior forward Nazeem Bartman. In the net, Spasoke Stefanovic holdss a 0.86 GAA through seven matches.
