STORRS, CT (September 26) — A late game-winning goal by David Castellanos (Sr., Philadelphia, PA) that elevated the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Wednesday night would be exactly what the Huskies would need in order to shake off a weekend in which they went winless at the UNLV Tournament.

With the win, the Huskies improved their record to 4-2-2 and 2-0-0 in the BIG EAST, while Pittsburgh fell to 1-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the league.

Castellanos' goal came at the 84:05 mark from 28 yards out as he sent one into the bottom left corner of the net. Prior to the score, Connecticut had its chances as it outshot Pittsburgh 6-0 in the first half and 17-1 throughout the contest.

Due to the defensive effort by the Husky backfield, Bryheem Hancock (Sr., Middletown, DE) did not record a save, while Pittsburgh’s Justin Gaul had three.

UConn hosts state rival University of Hartford on Saturday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Morrone Stadium in Storrs.
