STORRS, Conn. - Coming off a 2-1 victory against No. 10 Saint Louis, the No. 22 University of Connecticut men’s soccer team will take on USF tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla. in its inaugural American Athletic Conference match. The match can be heard live on WHUS.org, 91.7 fm.
UConn (3-2-1) enters the contest after posting a season-best two goals against the Billikens on Saturday night at Morrone Stadium. Freshmen Cyle Larin and Ethan Decker both found the back of the net, and Andre Blake recorded one save to earn his third victory of the season. The Huskies are ranked No. 13 in TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Top-25 poll.
The Huskies were well-represented in The American’s weekly awards, as Decker was named the Rookie of the Week while senior midfielder George Fochive was named to the Honor Roll for the second time this season.
The last showdown between the two teams occurred in the 2010 season, when the Huskies cruised to a 4-0 win, as former standout Carlos Alvarez recorded four assists to power UConn to victory.
This season, the Bulls sit at 2-1-3, most recently being named Co-Champions of the Gamecock Classic where they posted a 1-0-1 record. Kennedy Adablah is the teams’ leader goal-scorer, having netted two goals and tallying five points on the young season. Goalkeeper Brentton Muhammad has seen most of the action in between the posts for the Bulls, making 20 saves and allowing four goals in just under 490 minutes of action.
Connecticut posted a 6-2-0 conference record in its final season in the BIG EAST in 2012, and looks to start its run in The American tonight.
