STORRS, Conn. – The Connecticut men’s soccer team looks to earn its first conference victory tonight against Rutgers at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the match can be heard live on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
UConn (3-2-4) has seen much better production out of its offense lately despite settling for draws in its last three matches. The Huskies have scored 1.5 goals a game over their last four contests after averaging 0.4 goals in the first five games of the season.
Freshman Cyle Larin, who was named to the conference Honor Roll this week, has scored two goals in his last four matches. He leads Connecticut with seven points this season on three goals and one assist.
The Huskies are 11-10-1 all-time against the Scarlet Knights. The two teams last met in 2011 in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament when UConn defeated Rutgers 3-1.
The Scarlet Knights (5-5-1) are led by sophomore midfielder Mael Corboz, who has five goals and four assists on the year. Rutgers goalkeeper David Greczek has played in all 11 games this season, giving up 1.29 goals a game.
Connecticut’s defense has been superb this year, allowing just six shots a game this season, and the Huskies will look to corral a Rutgers offense that is averaging over 11 shots per contest.
