    Men's Soccer Ends In Tie With Boston College In Double OT

    Newton, MA (Oct. 11) - The top-ranked University of Connecticut men's soccer team tied, 1-1, with Boston College in double overtime on Oct. 11 at Newton Campus Soccer Field in Newton, MA.

    Boston College's Casey Schmidt booted in a feed from Robert Thompson at the top of the box, to give the Eagles an early lead with 11:42 on the clock.

    The Huskies would tie the game up, when junior Mansour Ndiaye (New York, NY) drilled the ball to the lower bottom right side of the goal after a Max Zieky (Glastonbury, CT) header off a cornerkick by senior Roberto Vargas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia).

    UConn (9-1-2 overall, 4-0-2 BIG EAST) and BC (5-5-1 overall, 4-2-1 BIG EAST) could not find a winning goal in the second half, forcing the game into overtime. After going 15 minutes in the first extra period, the game went on to a second overtime and the eventual tie.

    Connecticut, which dominated play throughout most of the contest, held a 22-10 advantage on shots on goal.

    Junior goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) had three saves, while BC goalie Chris Hamblin defended 10.

    As the nation's No. 1 team, the Huskies next host BIG EAST rival Syracuse on Oct. 14 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The game will be played Under the Lights at 7 p.m.
