STORRS, Conn. – For the second consecutive week, two University of Connecticut men’s soccer players earned major American Athletic Conference awards as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. Freshman Cyle Larin was named the Rookie of the Week for the second time in a row, while senior George Fochive was honored with his second Defensive Player of the Week accolade in as many weeks. In addition, junior goalkeeper Andre Blake was named to the Honor Roll.

Larin, the Huskies leading goal scorer, has found the back of the net in four of his last five contests and had an assist on Allando Matheson’s game-winner on Saturday. The Brampton, Ontario native scored the game-winning goal against Yale on October 22nd, marking his third game winner of the year. Larin has started 14 of the Huskies 15 matches, tallying 16 points on seven goals.  It is the third time the freshman has been named Rookie of the Week this season.

Fochive, in his second season as a Husky, has helped lead Connecticut to eight shutouts this season, as the defense has allowed just nine total goals in 2013. The holding midfielder has been vital to the defensive squad, and is just one of five Huskies to start every match for 17th-year head coach Ray Reid.

Blake was named to the Honor Roll for his performance in Connecticut’s 1-0 victory over conference foe, Cincinnati, on Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The May Pen, Jamaica native recorded one save and posted his sixth shutout of 2013. Since returning to the starting lineup on October 15th, the Huskies are 3-0-1 and have given up just two goals to opponents.

Connecticut (8-2-5, 3-0-4 The American) currently sits at second in The American with 13 points and looks to extend its unbeaten streak to 11 consecutive matches, which would equal the longest streak from the 2012 season. UConn is the only team that has not lost a match in conference play.

The Huskies wrap-up regular season play with a road match against SMU on Saturday, November 2nd at Westcott field in Dallas, Texas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
