STORRS, Conn. (October 30, 2008) - The No. 15/16 nationally-ranked University of Connecticut men's soccer team will host Seton Hall in its last regular season contest of the 2008 season at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 at Morrone Stadium.
The UConn program will honor its six seniors prior to the Friday night match-up as these student-athletes have played important roles as their program has positioned itself among the elite Division I teams in the nation. It has been during the careers of these six talented student-athletes that UConn has earned three NCAA Tournament berths, with two of these Huskies seeing four because of medical redshirting in 2004. UConn captured two BIG EAST Regular Season titles and two BIG EAST Tournament titles with these six players while they have combined for 72 goals, 57 assists and 201 points.
UConn, currently 8-3-6 overall and 5-3-2 in BIG EAST play, will host the Seton Hall Pirates for just the third time since Sept. 13, 2003. The Pirates hold a 6-7-4 record this season with a conference showing of 2-4-4. UConn leads the series between the two programs 12-10-3 as the Huskies defeated the Pirates 1-0 on the road in 2007.

The Huskies enter Friday night's match-up ranked 15th in the NSCAA/adidas Poll while being ranked 16th in the Soccer America Poll. The Soccer Times Poll has the Huskies at 18th as the College Soccer News Poll holds the Huskies in the 17th spot.
In their last time out on Tuesday evening, the Huskies battled Pittsburgh to a 2-2 double overtime tie in conference action. Junior Joe Boa (Brookfield, Conn.) scored his first career goal to tie the Panthers at one early in the second half as freshman Tony Cascio (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Toni Stahl (Tuusula, Finland) earned the assists. Cascio picked up his second point of the night as he combined with sophomore Greg King (Queensland, Australia) for the assists on a goal by Stahl to tie the game at two with just 13 seconds left in the game to send the contest into overtime.
Junior Mike Pezza (Jackson, N.J.) leads the Huskies in 2008 with seven assists, including a two-assist performance against Cincinnati on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Morrone Stadium. He picked up his team-leading seventh assist in the 1-0 upset over No. 13 Notre Dame. O'Brian White (Scarborough, Ont.) leads the Huskies with six goals this season, improving his career tally to 46.
This week's BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, Josh Ford (Liverpool, N.Y.), has allowed 10 goals this season for a 0.54 goals allowed average. He posts a .870 save percentage while recording 10 shutouts this season and 67 saves in 1662:36 minutes played.
Seton Hall is led this year by Samuel Petrone who has a team-leading nine goals and 21 points in all 17 games played. Brayan Martinez has a team-high five assists while Dritan Sela has 11 points on five goals and one assist. The Pirates, despite a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 25, average 1.53 goals and 18.4 shots per contest while the Huskies average one goal a game along with allowing just 12.9 shots to their opponent. Paul McHenry has played in 15 games in the net for the Pirates as Sean Carr as tallied three games of action. McHenry has a 4-6-4 record this season while allowing 19 goals and a 1.25 goals allowed average.
This is the Huskies last regular season match of the year as they post season play is right around the corner. Fans who dress up for the Halloween match-up will be entered into a contest for the best costume of the night. The winner will receive an autographed soccer ball by UConn head coach, Ray Reid. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. match.
