STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men’s soccer team returns to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium for Senior Night at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 for a critical contest with the SMU Mustangs (6-9-0, 2-4-0 American). The match will be broadcasted live on WHUS.org, 91.7 FM.
Prior to the game, UConn will recognize its six seniors; goalkeeper Chris Musco (North Haven, Conn.), defender Jesse Wasserman (Farmington, Conn.), midfielder Nick Zuniga (Norwalk, Conn.), midfielder Sebastian Brems (Odense, Denmark) and team captains, defender Jake Nerwinski (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and midfielder Kwame Awuah (Toronto, Ont.).
UConn (11-6-0, 3-3-0 American) enters the contest tied for third in the American Athletic Conference standings with nine total points. The Huskies are 7-2-0 in Storrs this season and return to Morrone Stadium after a two-game road trip (0-2-0). The last time the Huskies were home on Tues. Oct. 18, Dylan Greenberg (Dix Hills, N.Y.) scored a game-winner against Boston College in overtime to seal up a 1-0 triumph.
UConn leads the all-time series against the Mustangs, 6-2, in a series that dates back to 1982. The Huskies last victory against SMU came on Oct. 25, 2014 in Storrs, a 2-1 win behind second-half goals from Jake Nerwinski and Cyle Larin.
Garrett McLaughlin leads the Mustangs with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists). SMU has recorded 19 goals on the season and average 12.5 shots per game. Defensively, Michael Nelson has started in 14 games in goal, with a 1.19 GAA, allowing 16 goals, 50 saves and notching three shutouts on the year.
Saturday night’s contest is FREE for students, be sure to bring your student ID’s and pick up your tickets at the ticket office by Nov. 4.
