    STORRS, Conn. - Major League Soccer has announced its list of 52 college seniors selected to participate in the MLS Combine and Tony Cascio and Nickardo Blake will represent the University of Connecticut. The 2012 adidas MLS Combine is set for January 6-10 at Central Broward Park. in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

    For the eighth consecutive year, the MLS SuperDraft will be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention, and take place on January 12, at the Kansas City Convention Center. The first round of the SuperDraft will be broadcast live on ESPN2 beginning at 11:00 AM CT/12:00 noon ET.

    This year, the MLS SuperDraft will include two rounds and 38 overall selections, with the Montreal Impact selecting first overall.

    Tony Cascio (Gilbert, Ariz.) entered the 2011 season as a Preseason All-American, a member of the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List and the BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He finished his final season in Storrs with 18 points on five goals and eight assists. Cascio notched goals in his final two games at Connecticut and finished his career with 73 points based off 24 goals and 25 assists. He was named to the 2011 All-BIG EAST Second Team as a senior.

    Nickardo Blake (Clarendon, Jamaica) finished his senior campaign with a goal and three assists for five points. Blake’s lone goal of the season came in overtime to defeat in-state rival Yale at Morrone Stadium on September 27. A transfer from East Central Junior College in Missouri, Blake appeared in 44 games, starting 32 in his two seasons with Connecticut. He finished his career with two goals and six assists for 10 points.


     

     

    Connecticut has had 22 players drafted by Major League Soccer, including six first-round selections.

    All-American Josh Ford (’10) was selected in the first round of the 2011 Supplemental Draft by the Seattle Sounders.
