Swimming and Diving Defeats Southern Connecticut, 175-111

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men’s swimming and diving team defeated Southern Connecticut State University 175-111 in a dual meet on Friday evening at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.

UConn registered 10 first place finishes out of the 16 men’s events. Matthew Dagenais contributed to three of the Husky victories, winning the 100 (52.52) and 200-yard (1:54.07) backstroke events and swimming the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.45).

Junior Anthony Dell’Isola had one of his best meets of the season. Dell’Isola won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.45) and took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:54.70).

Senior co-captain James Donlevy (Lake Grove, N.Y.) captured a win in the 50-yard freestyle (21.14). Other first place finishes included Daniel Krentsa (100 Free), Kyle Kimura (200 Fly), Mark Hunter (200 Free), Karl Bishop (1000 Free).

On the boards, Senior Spencer Beaulieu (Portland, Conn.) qualified for the NCAA Diving Zones in the 3M dive with a score of 326.40. Dan Kinney and Kyle Kennedy finished second and third respectively in the event. The trio performed well in the 1M, recording the top three scores in the event.

The Huskies attempt to carry their momentum into Sunday’s dual meet with Seton Hall. The meet wraps up senior weekend for UConn and will begin at 1 p.m. at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
