STORRS, Conn. - The men’s swimming and diving team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates 181-119 on Senior Day at the Wolff-Natatorium on Sunday.
The Huskies captured 11 first place finishes out of the 16 competitions. UConn had dominant performances from seniors James Donlevy, Christopher Girg, sophomore Mark Hunter and freshman Will Kearsey. Each individual captured multiple first place finishes on Sunday.
Donlevy notched a pair of victories in his freestyle events, winning both the 50 (20.87) and 100-yard (46.38) freestyle competitions. Girg swam well in his long distance freestyle events, taking the top spot in both the 500 (4.37.56) and 1000-yard freestyles (9:34.97).
Kearsey continued his spectacular freshman season with victories in the 100 (50.63) and 200-yard backstroke (1:50.90). Hunter replicated his success in the breaststroke events, logging victories in the 100 (57.27) and 200-yard (2:04.85) competitions.
Junior Dan Kinney rattled off a pair of victories with his dives in the 1M and 3M. Kinney scored high in both events with scores of 329.92 (1M) and 363.68 (3M). Senior Spencer Beaulieu and Kyle Kennedy finished just behind Kinney, splitting second and third place rankings.
Despite not winning the event, Karl Bishop and Matthew Dagenais showed significant improvements on Sunday. Bishop showed well in the 500 (4.28.60) and 1000-yard freestyle (9.37.50), placing second in both races. Dagenais placed third in the 200-yard IM, 200-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard backstroke.
