University of Connecticut senior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) set two schools records in winning three events as the UConn women's swimming and diving team topped Colgate by a 158-83 score on Sunday at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. The Husky men also defeated Colgate by a 151-82 count. The UConn men are 4-2 on the season while the women are 5-2.
The men's team saw junior Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) win the 50-yard freestyle in 21.10 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.03 seconds. Freshman Sawyer Franz (Pine, Colo.) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.44 and the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:51.87.
Junior Grant Fecteau (Delmar, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving with 326.24 points and the three-meters with 318.97.
Sophomore Asher Garcia (Pinecrest, Fla.) won the 200-yard IM in 1:58.05 while sophomore Keith Piper (Naperville, Ill.) took home the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.54. Sophomore Sean Battle (Allison Park, Pa.) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.28 while junior Nick Cerra (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:54.80.
Gallagher broke the school record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:04.42 while she also won the 200-yard breaststroke in a mark of 2:22.27. Gallagher was also part of UConn's 400-yard medley relay team that set a school record in 3:54.38. The other members of the record setting performance were sophomore Kati Kyle (Lithia, Fla.), senior Erin DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) and junior Katie Dobler (Pittsford, N.Y.).
Husky freshman Chinyere Pigot
(Miami, Fla.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.85 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.45 seconds. Junior Kim Fleming
(Mississauga, Ont.) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.25.
Junior Danielle Cecco (Hicksville, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving with 314.92 points and the three-meters with 311.63 points.
The teams return to action next Sunday, Feb. 5, when they play host to Dartmouth for Senior Day at 12:00 p.m.
