Men's and Women's Swimming And Diving Down George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 30, 2009) - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming teams each posted wins over George Washington on Friday afternoon. The men won by a score of 167-120 while the women won by a 172-119 count.

Junior Stephen Ferriera (Madison, Conn.) won both diving events for the men with 224.50 in the one-meter and 237.25 in the three-meter. Senior Liza Marriani (Cherry Hill, N.J.) did the same for the women with 178.05 in the one-meter and 193.15 in the three-meter. Seniors Katie DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) and Adrian Astiz (Rockville, Md.) won their respective 1000-yard free events. DeVinney swam in 10:40.77 and Astiz was in 9:50.21.

Freshman Erin DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) won the 100-butterfly (1:00.74) and 100-free (54.31). Senior Kristalynn Kempton (Glen Head, N.Y.) won the 500-yard freestyle for the women (5:06.66) and freshman Mitch Dansky (Winchendon, Mass.) did the same for the men in 4:50.38

UConn wraps up its visit to the nation's capital with a 1 p.m. meet vs. Georgetown on Saturday.
