WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 31, 2009) - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming teams set a combined ten Albert J. McCarthy, Jr., Pool records on Saturday afternoon en route to posting a pair of wins over Georgetown. The men defeated the Hoyas by a 163-122 score while the women won 164-127. The men improve to 7-0 on the year while the women are 7-1.
Freshman Brad Schott (Wilton, Conn.) set the one-meter diving record with a score of 330.83 to also post a NCAA Zone Meet cut score. Junior diver Stephen Ferreria (Madison, Conn.) had a score of 299.78 in the one-meter diving for a pool record and on the women's side senior Liza Marianni (Cherry Hill, N.J.) set pool records with a 271.05 in the one-meter and a 286.13 in the three-meter.
Other pool records on the women's side included: freshman Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) with a 1:06.21 in the 100-yard breaststroke, senior Audrey Prior (Lutz, Fla.) with a 2:05.78 in the 200-yard backstroke and senior Lisa Shelps (Quakertown, Pa.) with a 2:07.05 in the 200-yard IM.
Sophomore Alex Davidson (Pointe-Clarie, Que.) set a pool record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.68 while sophomore Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland) set a record with a 2:04.97 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The UConn 400-yard medley relay team of Davidson, Sobek, senior Adrian Astiz (Rockville, Md.) and senior Jules Alexandre (Wallingford, Conn.) set a pool record in 3:28.21.
UConn return to action next Saturday when it plays host to Yale at 1:00 p.m. for Senior Day.
