Three School Records Set Through First Two Days Of BIG EASTs

LOUISVILLE, Kent. - Sophomore Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) advanced to Thursday night's final in the 500-yard freestyle while sophomore Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) was in the 50-yard freestyle final as preliminary races were held Thursday morning at the BIG EAST Men's and Women's Swimming Championship. Bowen had the seventh fastest time in the preliminaries while Yoon was eighth.

Five other Huskies qualified for consolation finals on Thursday - sophomore Jeremy Ramshaw (Mississauga, Ont.) in the 200-yard IM (12th fastest time), sophomore Karim Zayed (Montreal, Que.) in the 500-yard freestyle (10th), junior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) in the 200-yard IM (12th) and sophomore Mary DeMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.) in the 500-yard freestyle (15th).



There were a pair of school records set on Thursday with Karim Zayed in the 500-yard freestyle in the Thursday preliminaries and the men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.26).

Bowen finished seventh in her finals race in a time of 4:51.82. Yoon was tied for fifth in his final at 20.42 seconds, which was a personal best.

Ramshaw was four in the consolations, Zayed was second, Gallagher was third and DeMarrais was seventh. 

The UConn men are currently in fifth place and the women are in eight, but just 39 points out of fourth.
