Dagenais Sets School Record at The American Championships

HOUSTONMatthew Dagenais set a school record in the 200-yard IM on Thursday night at The American Championships. Dagenais logged a time of 1:47.78, eclipsing the previous record of 1:48.31 held by Greg Baliko.

Dagenais was the runner-up in the 200-yard IM and his teammate, freshman Will Kearsey, finished in third place in the event to boost two Huskies to the podium. Both Dagenais and Kearsey nabbed NCAA B qualifying times with their performance in the IM.

Senior co-captain also captured a podium finish, taking runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (20.22). He just missed reaching an NCAA B qualifying time at 20.19.

Freshman Karl Bishop just missed out on the podium in the 500-yard freestyle, placing fourth in the competition with a time of 4:22.62. Chris Girg made the B-Final of the same event and ended the night in ninth place.

The final swimming competition of the night was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Dan Krentsa, Kevin Konarski, Mark Hunter and Dagenais swam a 1:23.86 to come in fourth place in the event.



On the boards, Dan Kinney secured a spot on the podium in the 1M dive after scoring a 297.45 to take third place. Freshman Kyle Kennedy earned a sixth place finish while Spencer Beaulieu settled for eighth.

The Huskies have now compiled 267 points, placing the team in third place in The Championships.

Competition continues tomorrow with swimming preliminaries starting at 11 a.m. ET, diving preliminaries at 1:30 a.m. and finals at 7 p.m. ET. The American Digital Network has coverage of the night session tomorrow night. Friday’s events on the men’s side includes the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
