PITTSBURGH - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming teams opened action at the 2010 BIG EAST Championship on Wednesday as three relay events were held. The Championship runs through Saturday on the University of Pittsburgh campus and the diving portion of the event was held last weekend.
The UConn men's 800-yard medley relay team finished sixth in the event with a time of 6:44.37. That team consisted of senior John Hogan (Walkersville, Md.), freshman Jeremy Ramshaw (Mississauga, Ont.), sophomore Nick Majtenyi (Catherines, Ont.) and senior Jon Wong (Toronto, Ont.).
The men's 200-yard medley relay team finished fifth in a time of 1:30.97. That team was comprised of junior Alex Davidson (Pointe Claire, Que.), junior Tomasz Sobek (Siemianowice Slaskie, Poland), Hogan and freshman Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.).
The women's 800-yard freestyle relay team finished in seventh place in a time of 7:27.62. That team was freshman Mary DeMarrais (Bernardsville, N.J.), sophomore Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas), freshman Katie Dobler (Pittsford, N.Y.) and freshman Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.).
The women's 200-yard medley relay team finished eighth in 1:45.30 and that team was freshman Kim Fleming (Mississauga, Ont.), Gallagher, sophomore Anna Drinka (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Ye Ling (Lake Worth, Fla.).
