BUFFALO - University of Connecticut diver Taryn Urbanus (Quincy, Mass.) will now be competing in two events at next week's NCAA Championships. The junior standout placed third in the finals of the 1-meter event on the last day of the NCAA Zone A Meet to qualify for her second event in the NCAA Championships.
Urbanus, who was second in the 3-meter final on Monday, will be the first UConn swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since Danielle Cecco in 2013.
"Taryn was very good once again today," UConn diving coach John Bransfield said. "For her to be advancing this year is a big step for her and our whole program."
Sophomore Alexandra Butera (Havertown, Pa.) and junior John Brice (Bala Cynwood, Pa.) marked the other Huskies to reach finals on Tuesday. Butera was 11th in the 1-meter, while Brice earned a 14th place finish in the finals of the 3-meter.
"All in all, I was pleased with our representation," Bransfield said. "This intense event had helped us develop as a program and it will make us stronger in the future."
Urbanus will now travel to Greensboro, N.C., the site of the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The action three-day event gets underway March 19.
