STORRS, Conn - The UConn men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2016-17 season with a dual meet victory against the University of Bridgeport (150:50 - 117.50) and Keene State (190.00 - 91.00) on Saturday afternoon at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
Freshmen Will Kearsey (Wheathampstead, England) notched two first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (49.96) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:50:51) in his Husky debut.
Senior Christopher Girg (Burbach, Germany) also placed first in two events, wrapping up a stellar afternoon. In the 500-yard freestyle, Girg finished with the top time of 4:35:54 and then in 200-yard fly finished with a time of 1:53:14.
Sophomore Alan Li (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) continued the Huskies success with a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08:94).
The Huskies also picked up a top finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Will Kearsey, sophomores Mark Hunter (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa), Luke Martin (Richmond, Va.) and junior Daniel Krensta (Brookfield, Conn.) raced to a time of 1:34:40.
Senior diver Spencer Beaulieu (Portland, Conn.) and freshmen Kyle Kennedy (Raynham, Mass.) placed first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter diving events. Beaulieu registered a score of 258.22 in the 1-meter, while scoring a 257.03 in the 3-meter event. Kennedy finished behind his teammate with 251.40 and 245.77, respectively, in the 1-meter and 3-meter.

The Huskies are back in action next weekend in the Annual Alumni Meet and Social at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium, Saturday October 22nd at 12:00 p.m.
