STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's swimming and diving team defeated Pennsylvania by a 161-139 score on Sunday while the men's team fell to Penn 177-123. The UConn men are 2-2 on the season and the women are 3-2.
On the men's side, junior Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) was a double-winner in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.41 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.41 seconds. Sophomore Keith Piper (Naperville, Ill.) also won two events in the 100-yard backstroke (51.89 seconds) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.69).
Freshman Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) won the 200-yard breakstroke in 2:04.48.
The UConn women were led by a pair senior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kan.) as she won three events - the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.12, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.07 and the 200-yard IM in 2:07.52. Her time in the 100-yard breaststroke set a new pool record for the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium.
Junior Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) was a double-winner in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.12 and the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:13.02. Freshman Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.) won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.78 seconds.
Junior Danielle Cecco (Hicksville, N.Y.) won both diving events with a 294.00 score in the one-meter and a 333.45 score in the three-meter.
Both teams return to action on Fri.-Sun., November 18-20 when they travel to the Pitt Invitational.
