Men's and Women's Swimming And Diving Open At Terrapin Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming teams both opened action on Thursday at the three-day Terrapin Cup at the University of Maryland. The UConn men are in second place after the first day with 282.5 points while Maryland leads.

The UConn women have 189 points and are behind leader Maryland and Villanova. The women's team saw junior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) win the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:02.67 while sophomore Danielle Cecco (Hickville, N.Y.) won the one-meter diving with 282.65 points.

Sophomore Jordan Bowen (Lake Elmo, Minn.) finished eighth in the A final of the 500-yard freestyle in 4:58.43 while junior Erin DeVinney (Avondale, Ariz.) won the C final in 5:00.47.

On the men's side, sophomore Karim Zayed (Montreal, Que.) won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:29.16 while junior Nick Majtenyi (Catherines, Ohio) was fifth in 4:34.05.

The UConn 400-yard medley relay team was first in 3:19.48 while the 200-yard freestyle relay team finished second in 1:22.16 .

Sophomore Jeremy Rawshaw (Mississauga, Ont.) was second in the 200-yard IM in 1:50.10. Sophomore Kyungsoo Yoon (Toronto, Ont.) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.62 seconds. Sophomore Grant Fecteau (Delmar, N.Y) won the one-meter diving with 315.80 points while junior Brad Schott (Wilton, Conn.) was second.
