COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Connecticut men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed competition at the Terrapin Cup on Saturday. The men's team finished in second place out of eight teams behind Maryland. The women's team finished in third of eight teams behind Maryland and Villanova.
On Saturday, the men's team was paced by sophomore Karim Zayed (Montreal, Que.), who won the 100-yard freestyle in 44.56 seconds. Junior Nick Majtenyi (St. Catherines, Ont.) won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15:58.74 while the Husky 400-yard medley relay team won in a school-record time of 2:59.2. Senior Tomasz Sobek (Siemiaowice Slaskie, Poland) won the 200-yard breaststroke in a school-record 2:00.94.
The highlight of the women's team for Saturday was junior Caitlin Gallagher (Lawrence, Kansas) winning the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.04.
The Huskies return to action when they host Harvard on Dec. 4 at 2:00 p.m.
