LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UConn men’s swimming and diving team finished the second set of races of the Louisville Invitational on Saturday, finishing the day in third place with a total score of 721. The Huskies will head into the final day of competition trailing Louisville (1601.5) and Western Kentucky (730).
Several Connecticut swimmers placed in the A-Finals of Saturday’s race, starting with senior Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria), who finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.73. In the 200-yard medley relay, Shumkov joined juniors Jeffrey Magin (Brookfield, Conn.) and Greg Baliko (Fanwood, N.J.) and senior Felix Samuels (London, England) to swim to a third-place finish (1:30.87) in the event.
Connecticut junior diver John Brice (Bala Cynwood, Pa.) saw another top-three finish this season on the boards, earning third place in the 3-meter final with a score of 350.55. Sophomore Spencer Beaulieu (Portland, Conn.) rounded out the top five with a final score of 296.80.
Baliko also produced a solid time in the 100-yard butterfly, earning eighth place after completing the race in 50.06. In the final event of the night (800-yard freestyle relay), the UConn team of Magin, freshman Kyle Kimura (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Chris Girg (Burbach, Germany) and junior Mike Lennon (Williston Park, N.Y.) finished fifth with a time of 6:48.68.
UConn returns to action on Sunday for preliminary swims at 10 a.m. on the final day of the competition. The finals will take place later that day at 3:30 p.m.
