AUSTIN, Texas - University of Connecticut sophomore Lachezar Shumkov (Sofia, Bulgaria) finished in 21st place in the 100-yard breaststroke to highlight the weekend for the University of Connecticut men's swimming tema as the USA Swimming Winter National Championships.
Shumkov swam 55.45 seconds in the final and set a school record with a 55.00 time, which was also an NCAA B Cut time. He also swam in the 200-yard breaststroke and finished in 29th place in a time of 2:02.54.
UConn sophomore Wyatt Boliek (Greenville, S.C.) finished 47th in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:05.49.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they play host to Seton Hall at 1:00 p.m. The team will also take its annual winter break training trip in early January.
