SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will jump back into its dual meet schedule on Sunday, Jan. 24 against Seton Hall. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in the Arthur E. Imperattore Natatorium.
The Huskies started off 2016 at the Copa Coqui Invitational in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where both squads claimed first place and posted the highest combined score for the second year in a row to take the overall meet title. Freshman Julie Hu (Wilton, Conn.) and junior Deanna Parsons (Ellicott City, Md.) were named Co-Female Swimmers of the Meet after Hu took first in the 100-breaststroke (1:17.48) while Parsons finished the 100-freestyle in 1:01.68.
On Jan. 12, senior Jeff Magin (Brookfield, Conn.) was named the American Athletic Conference’s Male Swimmer of the Week after his performance in San Juan. The tri-captain helped the Huskies to a top finish in the 200-medley relay in a time of 1:50.48. He also joined the 200-freestyle relay team for another victory, this time swimming the race in 1:38.70. Individually, Magin touched the wall in 1:00.41 to check in second in the 100-backstroke.
The women’s team is currently 0-3 in dual meets, having dropped decisions to Villanova, Boston University and Rutgers in the earlier half of the season. The men’s squad holds a 2-1 record with victories over the Wildcats and Terriers.
