PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn diving team captured a pair of conference weekly honors on Tuesday with junior Dan Kinney and senior Alli Butera receiving American Athletic Conference Diver of the Week recognition.
Kinney is tabbed with the Diver of the Week award for the second time this season. This weekend Kinney notched a couple first-place and a second-place finish over the course of the two meets. He took the top spot in both events on Sunday against Seton Hall, logging scores of 329.92 (1M) and 363.68 (3M). His runner-up placement came on Friday evening against Southern Connecticut State, scoring a 320.62 on the 3-meter board.
“Dan had the best meet of his career this past weekend, with personal bests on both boards,” said head diving coach John Bransfield. “His board-work skills are coming along nicely, which in turn has him finishing his more difficult dives with more time to get in the water better. Step-by-step, Dan is showing the right stuff to be in the hunt for the Championships.”
Alli Butera (Havertown, Pa.) tallied her first conference Diver of the Week honor on Tuesday. Butera continued a stellar senior season by producing two first-place finishes on Senior Day against Seton Hall. On the 1-meter board Butera posted a score of 303.30, while notching a total of 323.78 in the 3-meter competition. She added a second-place result on Friday evening with a tally of 275.02.
“Alli had a great Sunday meet, and was sharp on most of her dives on both boards this past weekend,” said Bransfield. “We are still in the trenches and working hard, but she was gritty and made some of her big tricks look easy. This showing bodes well for skills to shape in the few weeks.”
The Huskies are on the road this week with a meet in Hanover, N.H. against Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
