HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Connecticut men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams wrap up their dual meet schedule on the road against Dartmouth on Saturday. The meet is set to start at 12 p.m. at the Karl Michael Pool.
Both UConn teams sit at 4-1 in dual meets this season following sweeps of Boston College (Jan. 24) and Seton Hall (Jan.25) at home last weekend. The women’s team won convincingly, sporting an average margin of victory of 42 points over the two days, while the men’s team defeated Seton Hall, 166.5-126.5, after edging the Eagles the day before.
Multiple Huskies earned American Athletic Conference weekly awards, as junior Jeff Magin (Brookfield, Conn.) was tabbed as the league’s Male Swimmer of the Week, while juniors Taryn Urbanus (Quincy, Mass.) and John Brice (Bala Cynwood, Pa.) both garnered Diver of the Week Awards. Magin totaled seven top times last week, and Brice and Urbanus both tallied the top score in each of their four events. Sophomore Sophie Nothnagle (Victor, N.Y.) provided the other highlight last week, breaking the pool record in the 200-yard butterfly against the Eagles with a time of 2:02.88
Saturday’s meet will mark the third straight year that the Huskies and Big Green face one another. The UConn men’s team has split with Dartmouth the last two seasons, while the women’s team is winless in its last two meets in the series. Last season, senior Chinyere Pigot (Miami, Fla.), sophomore Christine Pedersen (Vinterbro, Norway) and junior Laura Ruttan (Stittsville, Ontario) all won races to pace the women’s squad, while Brice swept the diving events to lead the Huskies on the men’s side.
Following this weekend, the Huskies will have a week off before they host the UConn Open at 11 a.m. at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium on the Storrs campus. The American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships (Feb. 18-21) will kick off 11 days later in Greensboro, N.C.
