Hunter and May Set Pool Records at Husky Invitational

Feb. 3, 2018

STORRS, Conn. – The Huskies competed in their annual Husky Invitational on Saturday at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. Freshman David May and junior Mark Hunter highlighted the unscored meet with a pair of pool records.

“Today’s meet was a lot of fun to be a part of,” said head coach Chris Maiello. “We had a few more lifetime bests to add to the team tally and that is always fun. That’s why we do what we do. To get lifetime best performances, credit goes to the athletes for all the hard work they have done to this point. The highlights of the meet had to include the two pool records. Our pool opened in 1988 so there has been some fast swimming here. To set the 100 Fly (May) and 200 Breast (Hunter) pool records was something very special.

The Huskies competed in the exhibition with Bridgeport, Colgate and Holy Cross to prepare for their upcoming Championship meets.

David May claimed a pool record in the 100 Fly (48.46) with teammates Kyle Kimura and Will Kearsey placing second and third in the event.

Mark Hunter set the second pool record for the Huskies with his 2:01.53 time in the 200 Breaststroke.

On the women's side Holly Parker (200 IM), Katie Breault (56.13), Jennie Novak (100 Breast) and Jackie Van Lew (50 Free & 100 Back) all scored victories in the meet.

The Huskies now set their sights on the American Championships in Houston from Feb. 14-17. Keep an eye on the @UConnSwimDive twitter account and UConnhuskies.com for previews on the upcoming Championship.
